Six-figure blog marketing

Six-Figure blog marketing: How to create a thriving blog that earns over $100,000

When I first started my blog, I never imagined that blogging could turn into a full-fledged business in the future. But after several years of trial and error, I found the right strategies that not only helped me grow my audience but also made my six-figure blog a major source of income. The road wasn’t easy, but with focus, consistency and the right approach, I am now able to generate a full-time income from my blog and even more.

Let me tell you about the strategies I used to turn my blog into a six-figure income machine without the distraction of growing my audience and converting visitors into income.

Step 1: Find your profitable niche

When I first started out, I thought the broader my blog was, the better. But I quickly realized that a focused niche attracts more loyal readers. My advice is to choose a niche where there is enough demand but not too much competition. You need to become an expert in a specific area. I have more than 10 years of experience in making money online and affiliate marketing, so I focused on this niche. Despite the high competition I believe that in any case I will find my readers who will benefit from my experience.

Other examples – bloggers like Adam Enfroy and Michelle Schroeder-Gardner (creator of Making Sense of Cents) chose a personal finance niche and turned it into a huge income stream. Michelle, in particular, said that she makes six-figure (over $100,000) a month from affiliate marketing, mostly in the finance niche. If she had chosen too broad a niche, it would have been much harder for her to stand out.

Helpful tip: Use tools like Google Trends, Ahrefs, or Ubersuggest to explore niches with moderate competition but growing interest. Don’t choose something oversaturated like “general fitness.” Instead, focus on specific areas, such as “fitness for young moms” or “home workouts for seniors.”

Step 2: Plan and prioritize content with a long-term strategy in mind

In the beginning, I made the mistake of writing at random, but that all changed once I developed a solid content strategy. I now prioritize content that is both valuable to my audience and optimized for search engines.

Consistency is key. In my case, I publish two in-depth articles per week, which helps with SEO rankings and keeps my audience coming back. Neil Patel’s blog is a great example of this. Neil uses well-researched, evergreen content that drives organic traffic for years after the post is published.

Helpful tip: Plan your content calendar in blocks of 3 months, with core posts (in-depth, high-quality content that touches on key topics in your niche) and supporting content that links back to those core posts. This strategy will not only help build authority, but will also ensure that your site is favorably indexed by search engines.

Step 3: Outsource to scale faster

I realized that in order to truly scale my blog, I couldn’t do everything myself. Outsourcing became necessary once my blog grew beyond what I could handle on my own. I hired freelance writers to handle the content and also brought in an SEO expert to optimize older posts.

Outsourcing isn’t about cutting corners, it’s about focusing on what you do best. I now spend most of my time on strategy, networking and premium content. Blogs like Pat Flynn’s “Smart Passive Income” or Darren Rowse’s “ProBlogger” also have teams of people managing different aspects of their blogs.

Actionable tip: Start by outsourcing one task at a time – perhaps hire a virtual assistant to handle scheduling and publishing, or find a freelance content writer to write specific posts. You can find freelancers on platforms like SeoClerk or Fiverr.

Step 4: Strategically monetize with affiliate marketing and advertising

When my traffic started to grow, I knew it was time to focus on monetization. There are different ways to make money from a blog, but affiliate marketing and ad placement have become two of the biggest sources of income for me.
I make about 60% of my blog income through affiliate marketing, promoting products and services that are directly related to my niche. For example, “The Points Guy”, a travel blog, generates a significant amount of income by directing readers to credit card companies.

The other 40% comes from display advertising. While display ads don’t generate as much revenue per click as affiliate offers, they can increase with consistent traffic. When I reached 30,000 visitors per month, I was able to join premium ad networks like Mediavine, which significantly increased my ad revenue.

Helpful tip: For affiliate marketing, start with networks like Amazon Associates, PartnerStack, or JVZoo. Only promote products that you truly believe in and that are right for your audience. As for advertising, focus on increasing traffic first, and then when you meet your traffic requirements, turn to higher paying ad networks like Mediavine or AdThrive.

Step 5: SEO optimization is non-negotiable

One of the most important elements of my blogging success has been optimizing my site for search engines. I initially underestimated SEO, but after learning how to properly apply it, I gained organic traffic that now accounts for 80% of my monthly visitors.

SEO is not just about keywords. It’s about optimizing user experience, building backlinks, and making sure your blog loads fast. For example, Brian Dean of “Backlinko” focuses on super high-quality, SEO-optimized content, which is why his blog is consistently on the first page of Google.

Helpful tip: Always do keyword research before writing a post. Use tools like SEMrush or Ahrefs to find out what people are searching for in your niche. Remember to focus on long-tail keywords that are easier to rank for. Once your post is published, promote it with guest posting and outreach to get backlinks.

Step 6: Update and rework old content

I’ve also had great success with recycling old content. If a post performed well a year ago, I update it with fresh stats, add new information and republish it. This keeps the content relevant and helps with SEO rankings.

Top bloggers like Ryan Robinson often update old posts to keep their content fresh and relevant, which is key to staying competitive in search results.

Helpful tip: Consult your blog’s archives and look for posts that have lost popularity. Update the content, add new visuals and republish them. To attract new audiences, you can also rework your blog posts into other formats, such as videos or infographics.

Step 7: Diversify your traffic sources

While Google is your main source of traffic, you shouldn’t rely on it alone. Social media platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram are invaluable in attracting additional traffic. Pinterest, in particular, is a visual search engine, and if properly optimized, your pins can drive traffic for months.

Successful bloggers like Elna Kane use Pinterest to attract thousands of visitors each month, boosting their blog’s revenue through affiliate offers and advertising.

Helpful tip: Create visually appealing pins for each blog post and share them on Pinterest. Use PinFlux to automate your pin schedule, ensuring a constant flow of traffic from the platform.

Final thoughts: Six-figure blog is realistic

Achieving a six-figure income from blogging takes time, effort, and strategic planning. It’s easy to get distracted by the latest trends or try to do everything at once, but the key is to focus on what works. Set clear goals, be consistent and remember that success doesn’t come overnight, but it will come day by day if you follow a smart strategy.

By sticking to these methods – focusing on a niche, outsourcing when necessary, monetizing wisely, and constantly optimizing your content – you can turn your blog into a full-time business. If I was able to do it, starting with zero traffic and no experience, so can you.

Keep it up and soon your blog will be a six-figure income source!
