Niche Keyword Profit Estimator
Before I build a page for a keyword, I want a rough idea of what it could earn once it ranks. This estimator does that math: searches turn into visits by your position in Google, and visits turn into money through affiliate links, display ads or both.
One keyword, or the total for a group of related keywords one page targets
Search the keyword yourself to check. It cuts clicks a lot.

Traffic uses Google's organic click-through rate by position from Advanced Web Ranking, Google organic CTR (desktop, US, July 2026). Real traffic also depends on season, search features and how good your page is.
How the estimate works
- Visits. Monthly searches multiplied by the share of people who click a result at your position. Position 1 gets far more clicks than position 5, and an AI Overview at the top of the page takes a big share of clicks away.
- Affiliate income. Visits × the share of visitors who click your affiliate link × the share of those clicks that become a sale × your commission.
- Ad income. Visits ÷ 1,000 × your RPM (what your ad network pays per 1,000 visits).
Click-through rate by position
These are the numbers the estimator uses: Google organic results on desktop in the US, July 2026, from Advanced Web Ranking. Mobile clicks on position 1 run higher, so on mobile-heavy niches the estimate leans cautious.
Position | Click-through rate | With an AI Overview |
|---|---|---|
1 | 20.02% | 9.69% |
2 | 10.36% | 3.69% |
3 | 3.89% | 1.70% |
4 | 1.71% | 1.27% |
5 | 1.08% | 1.02% |
6 | 0.73% | 0.55% |
7 | 0.46% | 0.35% |
8 | 0.47% | 0.34% |
9 | 0.54% | 0.47% |
10 | 0.58% | 0.43% |
The gap between position 1 and position 3 is the whole story of SEO income: about five times the clicks for the same keyword.
Where to get the numbers
- Monthly searches: Google Keyword Planner is free but shows ranges. Paid tools like Ahrefs or Semrush give a single number, and they often disagree with each other, so treat any figure as an order of magnitude. For pages you already have, Google Search Console impressions are the most accurate source.
- AI Overview: search the keyword yourself in a private window and see whether Google answers it at the top.
- Link clicks and conversion rate: once a page has traffic, take them from your analytics and your affiliate dashboard. Until then, the defaults are cautious starting points.
- RPM: your ad network dashboard. It changes a lot by niche and by the country your visitors come from.
How I use the result
- Compare niches by earnings per visitor, not by search volume alone. A small keyword with a strong offer can beat a big one with ads only.
- Count the whole keyword group. One good page usually ranks for dozens of related searches, so add their volumes together.
- Remember it is the number after you rank. Getting to the top 3 takes months of work and links, and some seasons pay more than others.
